Parker about Château Moulin Saint-Georges 2003
Another estate owned by perfectionist Alain Vauthier (the proprietor of Ausone), this is the poor person's value pick from this proprietor. One of the finest vintages ever made by Alain Vauthier is the 2003 Moulin St.-Georges, a sleeper of the vintage. Deep purple to the rim with an exquisite nose of blueberries, white flowers, crushed rocks, and mulberry, the wine is rich, textured, powerful, and much more structured and full-bodied than it usually is in other vintages. This wine will actually benefit from 3-4 years of bottle-age and drink well for 15-20 years.

Château Moulin Saint-Georges 2003

The 2003 Château Moulin Saint-Georges is an expressive Bordeaux from the Saint-Émilion appellation, reflecting the intensity and opulence of this exceptionally hot vintage. The 2003 vintage produced wines characterized by great ripeness, powerful fruit, and full structure.
The wine is a deep, almost opaque ruby red with light violet reflections. The bouquet is intense and rich, dominated by ripe dark fruits such as blackberries, black cherries, and plums. These luscious fruit aromas are accompanied by spicy notes reminiscent of vanilla, cinnamon, and licorice, all subtly supported by roasted aromas such as espresso and dark chocolate, which emerged from aging in oak barrels. A hint of dried herbs and a light mineral note complement the complex aromatic profile.
On the palate, the 2003 Château Moulin Saint-Georges is full-bodied and powerful, with impressive density and concentration. The tannins are ripe, supple, and well-integrated, giving the wine a velvety texture and great ageing potential. The fruit is lush and juicy, supported by a mild acidity that lends the wine a pleasant freshness despite its opulence. As the wine matures, additional notes of dark chocolate, tobacco, and a subtle minerality unfold, deepening the taste experience.
The finish is long and intense, characterized by persistent fruit notes and a hint of spice that fade harmoniously. The Château Moulin Saint-Georges 2003 is now in a great drinking phase and shows potential for further development over the coming years.
This wine pairs perfectly with hearty dishes such as grilled beef, game, or strong cheeses. It offers an intense and complex drinking experience that impressively showcases the richness and character of the 2003 vintage.
