Parker about Château Saint-Pierre 2005
Possibly one of two of the most concentrated St.-Juliens (Léoville Las Cases is the other), this 2005 shows wonderfully sweet tannin, a dense ruby/purple color, and lots of crème de cassis, licorice and spice. Full-bodied, opulent, and impressive, it is surprisingly soft, although it will certainly age nicely for 15-20+ years.

Château Saint-Pierre 2005

The 2005 Château Saint-Pierre, from the Saint-Julien appellation in the Médoc, is an outstanding wine from an excellent vintage known for its powerful, concentrated, and long-aging Bordeaux wines. This wine combines power and elegance in an impressive way.
In the glass, the 2005 vintage reveals a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red, hinting at its density and aging potential. The nose unfolds with intense aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and cherries, complemented by spicy notes of cedarwood, graphite, and cigar box. A hint of violet and dark chocolate adds further refinement.
On the palate, the Château Saint-Pierre 2005 is powerful and structured, with dense, velvety tannins that lend the wine backbone and longevity. The fruit flavors are opulent, yet balanced by precise acidity. Notes of mocha, leather, and mineral hints enhance the complexity and depth of this wine. The wood flavors from the oak barrel aging are perfectly integrated and contribute to the harmonious structure.
The finish is impressively long, characterized by black fruits, spices, and a subtle hint of roasted aromas that slowly fade away. This vintage has many years of aging potential, but can also be enjoyed now if decanted first. It pairs perfectly with hearty meat dishes such as beef fillet, lamb, or game, as well as with mature cheeses.
