Parker about Château Sociando-Mallet 2005

It's hard not to admire the brilliant Jean Gautreau, who has run this great terroir and estate (just to the north of St-Estèphe's Château Montrose) with meticulous perfection for decades. The 2005 is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. Offering beautifully sweet crème de cassis and blueberries, this is concentrated essence of blue and black fruits, with some underlying minerality, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, and stunning texture, length and purity. This is superb Sociando Mallet, with surprisingly sweet tannins, which is even more remarkable in this vintage of high and occasionally hard tannins. Give it another 4-5 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30 years.

Suckling over Château Sociando-Mallet 2005

his continues to be a firm and structured red with lots of slate, wet-earth and blackcurrant character. Full body, polished, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Give it time. Better after 2021.

Produktbeschreibung

Château Sociando-Mallet 2005

The 2005 Château Sociando-Mallet is a remarkable red wine from the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux, known for its exceptional quality and longevity. The 2005 vintage is considered one of the best in Bordeaux, characterized by ideal climatic conditions that allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes.

The Château Sociando-Mallet 2005 displays a deep red color with purple reflections in the glass, indicating its youth and concentration. On the nose, the wine unfolds a complex bouquet of dark berry fruits such as blackcurrants and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of cassis and plums. Spicy elements such as vanilla, cedarwood, and a hint of tobacco complement the aromatic profile, lending the wine depth and complexity.

On the palate, the Château Sociando-Mallet 2005 is full-bodied and powerful. The tannins are present, yet silky and well-integrated, giving the wine excellent structure and a pleasant mouthfeel. The dark fruit aromas continue, supported by fresh acidity and a fine mineral note. The finish is long and lingering, displaying remarkable balance and elegant persistence.

This wine is currently at its optimal drinking maturity and offers an excellent drinking experience. However, due to its robust structure and the outstanding quality of the grapes, the Château Sociando-Mallet 2005 has the potential to continue to develop and age for many more years. It will gain complexity and depth, and its best years are still ahead of it.
