Parker about Colheita Port 2012
The 2012 Colheita Tawny Port is the "young" Colheita sold now, as they always sell one older and one younger version (the older one now is 2003) because they want to show that the category is able to age in bottle. Niepoort has a very good track record in Colheita or single vintage Tawny Ports. This was bottled in 2023 after 10 years in Port barrels (pipas). It was not a special year, so they didn't make a Vintage (especially after 2011) but produced very good Tawny Ports instead. It feels younger and less developed than the 10 Year Old Tawny, a nice introduction to single-harvest Tawny. To me, this is still a bit too young and fresh. It was bottled with 105 grams of sugar. 60,000 bottles produced.

Colheita Port 2012

Niepoort's 2012 Colheita Port presents itself with elegant and complex aromas. Aging in small wooden barrels gives it a harmonious structure and exceptional balance. Aromas of dried fruits such as figs and dates unfold on the nose, accompanied by nuances of roasted nuts, toffee, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is velvety with a beautiful freshness that perfectly balances the sweetness. The texture is supple, and the fine tannins underline its complexity. The finish is long and persistent, with a delicate spiciness and a pleasantly lingering sweetness. This Colheita is ideal as a companion to desserts, aged cheeses, or as a solo wine for special occasions.

Information about the winemaker:
The history of the traditional company begins almost 200 years ago, when Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a young, ambitious Dutchman from near Amsterdam, laid the foundation for the wine company. After emigrating to Portugal and gaining some experience in the wine trade, he founded today's winery in 1842. According to the region, he focused on port wines.
