The Durand - Korkenzieher für Weinraritäten

The Durand is a specially designed corkscrew for opening rare wines. It's a combination of a corkscrew and awl, allowing you to remove even very old and fragile corks without breaking or disintegrating them.
Developed by sommelier Mark Taylor and wine enthusiast Tom Matthews, the Durand is unique in its design and function. The corkscrew consists of a long, slender steel rod with a serrated tip that is inserted into the cork. A specially shaped awl is then inserted into the cork to pierce and remove the lower part of the cork, while the upper part is held firmly by the corkscrew.
The Durand is especially useful for opening old wines where the cork has become brittle due to aging and drying out. Conventional corkscrews risk breaking or disintegrating the cork during opening, which can cause problems when serving the wine. With the Durand, the cork is removed gently and safely without breaking or disintegrating, allowing the wine to be served without any hassle.
