Parker about Riesling Kirchspiel 2020

Vinified in large Stockinger oak vats until July this year, the 2020 Westhofen Kirchspiel Riesling Trocken is very clear, pure and finely flinty on the chalky nose that reveals ripe, white fruit aromas. Piquant and fresh on the palate, this is a pure and vivacious, finely grippy and persistently salty Riesling with a serious structure and stimulatingly finish that is remarkably long. Tasted in July 2021.

Suckling Punkte 94

Suckling over Riesling Kirchspiel 2020

Tight wild-tart, Amalfi-lemon and ripe-gooseberry nose. Quite some power and chalky minerality packed into the medium-bodied palate, the chalky minerality bursting out at the long, super-crisp finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2023.

Produktbeschreibung

Riesling Kirchspiel 2020

A scent of ripe apricots and sweet yellow dried fruits greets the nose, alongside spicy and floral components of herbs like thyme and mint. On the palate, the Kirchspiel is opulent and dense, without being overbearing. A true powerhouse with plenty of potential.

Origin
This single-vineyard wine grows in the heart of the KIRCHSPIEL vineyard on a limestone marl soil on a slope sloping towards the southeast.

Expansion
After the hand-harvested grapes were separated from the stalks and lightly crushed. A maceration period of approximately 18 hours releases aromas from the skins, and the must is then pressed. Half is aged in wooden barrels, the other half in stainless steel. The must was fermented with wild yeasts.
