His descendants continue to run the winery extremely successfully and consistently stick to the methods of their predecessors, which certainly contributes significantly to the success of the wine. The Sassicaia has been imitated again and again over the years. However, no other producer has succeeded in copying the noble drop, because: The Sassicaia is unique. A major reason is the ideal growing conditions for wine in Tuscany. The vineyards of Tenuta San Guido are located in a top location in Italy. Today, the company produces around 800,000 bottles of wine annually and has 90 hectares of vineyards for viticulture. The current owner of the winery is Marchese Incisa della Rocchetta, who successfully produces high quality wine. The quality of the wine is unbroken and no matter whether you drink it young or aged for a long time: Wines from this winemaker from Tuscany are always elegant and flatter the palate of many wine lovers.

The history of Tenuta San Guido

The viticulture of the current owner is fraught with numerous myths. It all started with the planting of a slope below the well-known Castiglioncello Castle in Bolgheri with the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The reason: French wine was hard to come by in Italy during the Second World War, so Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta began cultivating French vines about ten kilometers from the coast in 1944. Legend has it that he illegally and personally brought the vines across the Italian border. At first, the wine was only tasted among family and friends, who were actually not very convinced of the result at first. That changed abruptly in the 1960s when a wine lover tasted one of the drops and was immediately delighted. He immediately bought some of the family's wines, which had matured for years, which prompted the family to significantly expand the wine-growing area. It took a few years before the wine was sold in stores. Today it is impossible to imagine the list of the best wines in the world without it.

The Sassicaia as the most famous drop

Alongside Barolo, Sassicaia is by far one of the best-known red wines in Italy. The noble drop has also achieved international fame and is now considered one of the world's best red wines. It was first commercially sold under its current name in 1968. Exactly 3,000 bottles were sold at that time. Made from the Cabernet varieties, which were extravagant at the time, it quickly caught the attention of wine connoisseurs and lovers.

Sassi means stone in Italian. In fact, the wine owes its name to the fact that there are an unusually large number of stones in the growing area. The Sassicaia can long be described as a cult wine of outstanding quality that inspires countless fans. The noble drop of Sassicaia is regularly showered with top ratings by international wine critics. In particular, the 2017 vintage is unconditionally recommended, because that year there were ideal conditions for viticulture. But not only the Sassicaia knows how to inspire. The Guidalberto, which comes from the winery and is referred to as the little brother of Sassicaia, also has great potential. Its advantage: It is a fairly uncomplicated wine that unfolds its full potential after only a short aging period. The high proportion of Merlot is characteristic of this.
