Parker about Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction Wine 2023
The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese (Auction) is very clear and precise on the nose that shows delicate notes of finely crushed slate and candied lemon rind notes. Very filigreed yet also lush and generous on the palate, this is a weightless, highly finessed and elegant, savory and sustainably structured wine with generous and dense, very persistent and stimulating fruit with lychee flavors and a long, highly stimulating, saline and crystalline finish. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 17 24 in January 2025.

Suckling over Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction Wine 2023
The wildflower and wild herb character adds an extra level of mystery to this fabulous, very youthful Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spatlese. So pristine on the finely nuanced, barely medium-bodied palate. Then the crystalline finish adds another dimension to the very complex picture. Limited production.

Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction Wine 2023

The 2023 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese auction wine from Joh. Jos. Prüm is a radiant masterpiece of the Mosel and a perfect embodiment of the legendary Wehlener Sonnenuhr. This iconic vineyard site, with its pure blue Devon slate, imparts unparalleled elegance, finesse, and depth to the wines. The 2023 auction Spätlese impresses with a brilliant balance of ripe fruit, vibrant acidity, and mineral precision. A complex bouquet of white peach, ripe pineapple, juicy apricot, and candied lemon unfolds on the nose, underscored by delicate herbal notes and the typical slate minerality. On the palate, the wine is incredibly delicate yet powerful, with a precise, prancing acidity that perfectly integrates the noble sweetness. The depth, clarity, and cool freshness lend it tremendous radiance and a long, elegant finish with a salty, mineral aftertaste. This late harvest impressively demonstrates the potential of Prüm wines: great harmony, subtle opulence and exceptional aging potential for decades.
