Parker about Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1996
The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve may be no better than the Oakville, but it is made in a slightly different style. The color is opaque purple, and the wine reveals more vanillin, a touch of mint, and plenty of black currant fruit in its moderately intense aromatics. Some of the vintage's dry tannin (from this year's stressed vineyard conditions) is present in the wine's finish. A more stylish, restrained, less exuberant example than the 1996 Oakville.

Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1996

Robert Mondavi's 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is an outstanding wine from California's renowned Napa Valley, known for its quality and longevity. This vintage displays a deep, almost black ruby red color, reflecting its intensity and concentration.
On the nose, the wine unfolds a rich bouquet of ripe black fruits, including blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums, combined with seductive aromas of cedarwood, tobacco, and spices, which emerge from aging in high-quality oak barrels. The complex aromatic nuances are complemented by floral notes that lend the wine a certain elegance, as well as hints of chocolate and coffee beans.
On the palate, the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 1996 is full-bodied and well-structured, with powerful yet fine-grained tannins that lend the wine impressive depth. The fruit flavors are intense and harmonize beautifully with the spicy and woody notes. The acidity is well-integrated and provides a fresh balance, while the long, lingering finish is characterized by complex flavors that linger until the very end.
This Cabernet Sauvignon is an excellent example of Robert Mondavi's craftsmanship and demonstrates the winery's ability to produce wines of remarkable quality and complexity. The 1996 vintage has reached optimal drinking maturity, but also offers potential for further aging while continuing to develop its full aromatic spectrum.
