Parker about Château Cheval Blanc Magnum 2006
Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Cheval Blanc is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Franc. It has the most floral bouquet of the four Series A Grand Cru Classé: an explosion of crushed violets and potpourri, hints of leather and cigar box, the Cabernet Franc clearly lending this complexity and character. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It feels wonderfully structured and comes with an insistent grip that coats the mouth. This is backward and almost surly, but you have to stand back and admire the precision and arching structure on the mineral-rich finish. Top dog Saint Emilion? That's for sure. Tasted January 2016.

Château Cheval Blanc Magnum 2006

The 2006 vintage in Bordeaux was considered very good overall. The weather during the grape growth and ripening phase was favorable, leading to long and even ripening. This enabled Château Cheval Blanc to produce an outstanding wine with plenty of character and complexity.
Château Cheval Blanc 2006 typically displays a deep, dense ruby red color. On the nose, it unfolds an impressive range of aromas. Ripe dark fruits such as black cherries, cassis, and blackberries dominate, accompanied by hints of spice, cedarwood, tobacco, and a subtle floral note.
On the palate, the wine is powerful, elegant, and well-structured. The silky tannins are perfectly integrated and give the wine a pleasant texture. Château Cheval Blanc 2006 impresses with remarkable depth and concentration. The fruitiness is rich and is accompanied by notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and a mineral nuance.
This vintage is already well-developed and showing its maturity, but can continue to age and gain complexity for many years in the cellar. Château Cheval Blanc 2006 is a wine of exceptional quality that perfectly represents the terroir of Saint-Émilion and the typical characteristics of Bordeaux wines.
This wine is an excellent choice for discerning wine lovers and collectors who appreciate the elegance and refinement of Bordeaux wines.
