Parker about Château Climens (0.375l) 2002
Tasted at Chateau Climens. Slightly deeper in color than the '03, this has an intriguing petrolly nose with hints of hawthorn, dried apricot, lemon curd and melted wax. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, perhaps a relatively conservative Climens, perhaps a Climens that has temporarily closed down. There is great tension here, superbly judged acidity and focus, a really symmetrical on the finish with dried apricots and a touch of ginger. I think this has been closed down for a few years and should open. Perhaps it could do with more length? Very fine. Drink 2014-2035. Tasted April 2009.

Château Climens (0.375l) 2002

Château Climens 2002 is an elegant and finely balanced Barsac with great finesse and depth. The 2002 vintage was challenging in Sauternes and Barsac, but Climens once again demonstrated his class, creating a wine of outstanding purity and complexity. On the nose, it unfolds a captivating bouquet of honey, white flowers, candied citrus fruits, and hints of exotic fruits such as pineapple and mango. On the palate, it is precise and fresh, with a taut, lively acidity that perfectly balances the opulent sweetness. The texture is creamy yet light-footed, with a remarkable minerality so typical of Barsac. Notes of honey, almonds, and delicate spices linger on the long, elegant finish. Château Climens 2002 is a subtle and refined sweet wine that is already a pleasure to drink, but will also continue to mature and develop over many years.
