Parker about Château Coutet (0.375L) 2002
Tasted blind at Farr's Sauternes 2002 horizontal. Lucid straw/gold colour. The nose is generous with some lovely aromas of dry honey, apricot, coconut and brioche. Pungent, but well defined. A viscous entry on the palate, a very good level of botrytis considering the vintage, hints of ginger, dried orange peel with good definition towards the rounded finish. Burly and powerful...perhaps it would benefit from a little more poise on the finish? This is a brash Coutet. Drink now-2020. Tasted October 2009.

Château Coutet (0.375L) 2002

Château Coutet 2002 presents itself as an elegant and complex Barsac with a radiant golden color, revealing the first hints of ripeness. The nose unfolds with a captivating bouquet of candied citrus fruits, white peach, and ripe apricots, underscored by delicate floral notes such as orange blossom and acacia honey. Subtle hints of vanilla, toasted almonds, and delicate spice linger in the background, testifying to the aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine displays a wonderful freshness typical of Coutet: the lively acidity permeates the rich, botrytis-infused sweetness, lending the wine remarkable balance. Aromas of candied lemon peel, honey, and a hint of ginger continue, while the fine minerality lends the wine an almost saline precision. The finish is long and elegant, with a floating lightness typical of Barsac. A harmonious, finesse-rich Sauternes that has developed excellently and will continue to shine for many years to come.
