Parker about Château d'Aiguilhe 2005
From the famous family of Comte de Neipperg, the 2005 D'Aiguilhe is sensational and may be one of the best cuvées I have ever tasted from Neipperg and his Côtes de Castillon estate. This wine has an opaque purple color and loads of Christmas fruitcake, licorice and crushed chalk along with plenty of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit. Full-bodied, rich, still structured and tannic, but super-concentrated, this is an amazing effort in 2005. Give it another several years of bottle age and drink it over the following 20 years.

Château d'Aiguilhe 2005

Château d'Aiguilhe 2005 from the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation is an impressive wine from an excellent vintage, impressing with its concentration, structure, and longevity. The winery belongs to the family of Count Stephan von Neipperg, who is also responsible for renowned wineries such as Château Canon-La-Gaffelière and La Mondotte. The wine is predominantly Merlot with a small proportion of Cabernet Franc, giving it a harmonious balance of ripe fruit, spice, and elegance. The nose unfolds a complex bouquet with aromas of black cherries, cassis, and ripe plums, accompanied by subtle notes of tobacco, cedarwood, cocoa, and a hint of mineral freshness. On the palate, the Château d'Aiguilhe 2005 presents itself with a powerful structure, ripe, silky tannins, and a lively acidity that lends it freshness and depth. The roasted aromas from the barrel aging are perfectly integrated and underscore the complexity of the wine. The long, elegant finish is accompanied by dark chocolate, herbal spice, and subtle earthy nuances. After almost two decades, the wine is perfectly drinkable, but still has potential for further years of aging.
