Parker about Château Kirwan 2001
The 2001 Kirwan is nearly as good as their splendid 2000. A dense purple color is accompanied by a bouquet of barbecue smoke, graphite, black cherries, creme de cassis, and a hint of espresso. Full-bodied and layered, with outstanding richness, purity, and sweetness on the palate, this firmly structured, well-delineated, impressively made, full throttle effort should hit its peak in 2-3 years, and last for 12-15. It will be one of the longest lived of the 2001 Medocs.

Château Kirwan 2001

Château Kirwan 2001 is a remarkable wine from the prestigious Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux region of France. Classified as a Third Growth (Troisième Cru) according to the Bordeaux Classification of 1855, this winery continues to demonstrate its outstanding quality in this vintage. The 2001 vintage is often prized for its elegance and finesse, which is clearly reflected in this wine.
On the nose, Château Kirwan 2001 presents a complex bouquet of black currants, ripe cherries, and plums, complemented by subtle notes of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of violet. On the palate, the wine displays a balanced structure with ripe, well-integrated tannins, lively acidity, and beautiful depth. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering aromas of dark fruits and subtle spice notes.
Château Kirwan 2001 has developed wonderfully over the years and is now at an excellent drinking stage. With optimal storage in a consistently cool, dark place, it will continue to offer enjoyment and allow its aromas to develop even further. We recommend decanting the wine approximately one hour before consumption to allow its full aromatic potential to unfold.
This elegant and complex wine pairs perfectly with sophisticated dishes such as beef fillet, rack of lamb, game dishes, and aged cheeses. The wine's rich aromas and balanced structure harmonize perfectly with intense and flavorful dishes. Château Kirwan 2001 is an excellent example of classic Margaux and offers an exquisite tasting experience for both collectors and wine enthusiasts.
