Parker about Château Margaux 2001
The 2001 Chateau Margaux continues to evolve into impressive fashion. The nose feels sensual, veering towards red rather than black fruit, with disarming purity and perhaps showing more floral/violet character than the 1999. Both display tremendous precision and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied, edgy and tense with crisp acidity, so fresh and vital in the mouth. Tasted next to the 1996 Château Margaux, it is clear to see that the 2001 is several steps behind, yet the way it fans out with such confidence and brio on the finish assures that this has a prosperous future. Tasted May 2016.

Château Margaux 2001

Château Margaux 2001 is a classic Bordeaux wine from the prestigious Margaux appellation, prized for its elegance, finesse, and harmonious structure. The 2001 vintage produced balanced wines that were less opulent than their predecessors from the 1990s, but exceptionally refined and long-lasting.
The wine displays a deep ruby red, indicating its youthfulness and concentration. The bouquet unfolds slowly, revealing complex aromas of ripe red and black fruits such as cherries, currants, and plums. These fruity notes are accompanied by floral accents such as violets and a subtle rose blossom. Added to this are the typical hints of cedarwood, tobacco, leather, and a hint of vanilla, which come from aging in French oak barrels.
On the palate, the 2001 Château Margaux demonstrates a remarkable balance between freshness and structure. The tannins are fine and supple, yet present and well-integrated, giving the wine an elegant and velvety texture. The fruit aromas are lively and clear, supported by a fresh acidity that lends the wine a wonderful lightness and vibrancy. Subtle notes of dark chocolate, spices, and a fine mineral note unfold in the background, rounding out the taste experience.
The finish is long and harmonious, characterized by an elegant combination of fruit and wood notes that linger gently and persistently on the palate. The 2001 Château Margaux is enjoying itself now, but also has the potential to develop positively over the years.
Château Margaux 2001 is an excellent Bordeaux wine that embodies the classic elegance and finesse of the Margaux appellation. It is an ideal accompaniment to sophisticated dishes such as veal fillet, duck breast, or aged cheeses, offering a refined and unforgettable drinking experience for lovers and connoisseurs of great Bordeaux wines.
