Parker about Château Margaux 2002
Performing better from bottle than at any time in cask (which of course is the objective of great winemaking, isn't it?), this wine reveals a dense ruby/purple color in a style somewhat reminiscent of the 1988 but with more power, concentration, and volume. It has a beautifully elegant nose of black fruits intermixed with truffle, flower, and oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, dense, with wonderful precision, freshness, and a long, full-bodied finish with impressive levels of concentration. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030.

Château Margaux 2002

Château Margaux 2002 is a remarkable Bordeaux wine from the renowned Margaux appellation, born in a challenging vintage. Despite the difficult weather conditions in 2002, Château Margaux produced a wine of impressive elegance, depth, and structure, retaining the estate's signature finesse.
The wine presents a deep ruby red, indicating its concentration and youthfulness. The bouquet is complex and seductive, with aromas of black currants, blackberries, and ripe cherries, accompanied by floral notes such as violets and a hint of rose petals. Aging in French oak barrels has imparted additional nuances of cedarwood, tobacco, leather, and a subtle hint of vanilla, further enriching the aromatic profile.
On the palate, the 2002 Château Margaux displays a remarkable balance between power and elegance. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, giving the wine a silky yet structured texture. The fruit flavors are lively and precise, supported by a fresh acidity that lends the wine a pleasant lightness and definition. Complex notes of dark chocolate, spices, and a subtle mineral note unfold in the background, lending the wine additional depth and complexity.
The finish is long and elegant, characterized by a harmonious blend of fruit, spice, and wood notes that linger gently and persistently on the palate. The 2002 Château Margaux is readily accessible now, but also has the potential to develop positively and unfold additional nuances over the next few years.
Château Margaux 2002 is a wine that perfectly reflects the classic elegance and refinement of the Margaux appellation, despite a difficult vintage. It is an excellent accompaniment to fine dishes such as lamb, beef fillet, or aged cheeses, offering a refined and unforgettable drinking experience for lovers and connoisseurs of great Bordeaux wines.
