Parker about Château Margaux Pavillon Rouge 2003
Also a stunning wine, the 2003 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux is a sleeper of the vintage. Much fresher and less evolved than I would expect a second wine to be from this vintage, it is a Margaux-like effort with a flowery character, good precision and freshness, red and black currant notes, and an attractive, medium-bodied, surprisingly concentrated mouthfeel. It is clearly one of the finest second wines made in this vintage. It can be consumed over the next 5-8 years.

The 2003 vintage was a special year due to the extreme summer heat in Bordeaux, producing wines with intense fruit and remarkable richness.
In the glass, the Pavillon Rouge 2003 presents a deep ruby red with violet reflections, indicating a youthful intensity. The bouquet is opulent and complex, with powerful aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums. These intense fruit notes are accompanied by nuances of cedarwood, tobacco, and spices. Subtle hints of vanilla, chocolate, and a touch of leather complement the wine, lending it additional depth and refinement.
On the palate, the Château Margaux Pavillon Rouge 2003 unfolds with impressive richness and concentration. The fruit flavors are juicy and intense, supported by a lively acidity that lends the wine freshness and structure. The tannins are robust but well-integrated, resulting in a dense, velvety texture. The wine's additional complexity is evident in fine spicy notes and a subtle mineral freshness that lends the wine an elegant touch.
The finish is long and persistent, with an elegant aftertaste of ripe fruit, delicate spices, and a light earthy note. The Pavillon Rouge 2003 is in a very good drinking window and also shows potential for further aging if one wishes to keep it for a few more years.
