Parker about Château Palmer 1988
This wine, like a number of 1988s, has matured well and is just beginning to show maturity. It has a dense, somewhat rugged constitution, with plenty of density, some earthy black fruits intermixed with licorice, compost, camphor, and roasted herbs. The wine is dense, medium to full-bodied, with some coarse tannins in the finish. I do not expect the tannins to ever melt away, but there is plenty of depth to this mouth-filling Palmer.

Château Palmer 1988

The 1988 Château Palmer is a remarkable Bordeaux wine from the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux region. The Château Palmer winery is known for its elegant and refined wines, typical of its region. The 1988 vintage is generally considered good, although it is not among the absolute top vintages.
The Château Palmer 1988 is a deep ruby red with garnet reflections, indicating its maturity and development. On the nose, it unfolds a complex bouquet with aromas of dark berries such as blackcurrants and blackberries, accompanied by subtle notes of violet, cedarwood, tobacco, and a light spicy component. These aromas are harmonious and demonstrate a certain maturity from ageing.
On the palate, the Château Palmer 1988 offers a medium to full-bodied structure with silky and well-integrated tannins. The fruit flavors continue on the palate, accompanied by further nuances of leather, truffle, and a fine mineral note. The acidity is balanced, lending the wine freshness and elegance.
The finish is long and persistent, with a harmonious balance between fruit, tannins and the complex aromas that slowly fade away, leaving a lasting memory.
