Parker about Château Pontet-Canet 2000
Upgraded in score over my original rating, which was several points lower, Alfred Tesseron has done a remarkable job since 1994 with Pontet-Canet, which has been hitting first-growth levels since 2003. But the 2000 also shows exceptionally well. In need of another decade of cellaring, this dense purple wine has a classic nose of incense, charcoal, creme de cassis, and subtle new oak. Full-bodied, powerful, still very tannic, and shockingly backward, this is a big, rich wine that has put on weight and seems to need more time than I originally predicted.

Suckling over Château Pontet-Canet 2000
Extremely rich and decadent with leaf, meat and spice aromas. Ripe fruit too. Lots of toasted wood. Full and mature now. Lovely to drink now. Gorgeous.

Château Pontet-Canet 2000

Château Pontet-Canet 2000 has a deep ruby red color, showing slight signs of ripeness. The nose reveals a complex bouquet of dark fruits such as blackcurrants and blackberries, accompanied by hints of leather, cigar box, and lightly toasted notes from the barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with an elegant structure and perfectly integrated tannins. The fruit flavors are juicy and lively, supported by a fresh acidity that gives the wine amazing balance. The finish is pleasantly long with a subtle minerality and a hint of licorice. This vintage still has enormous aging potential, but already offers an impressive drinking experience.
