Parker about Château Rauzan-Ségla 2022
The 2022 Rauzan-Ségla is showing well in bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries and cherries mingled with licorice, burning embers and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, ample and velvety, it's suave and seamless, with its dense core of fruit framed by powdery structuring tannins that lend a more evident backbone than it exhibited en primeur. As readers may remember, the 2022 is a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot; and in 2022, the east-facing sides of the vines, which see the afternoon sun, were picked separately, along with anything that showed signs of stress. The blend this year is 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, harvested between September 30 and October 16 at an average yield of 52 hectoliters per hectare. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 50% new. The alcohol is 13%.

Suckling over Château Rauzan-Ségla 2022
The freshness and clarity of the fruit is really something with black currants and cherries. Brilliant. Full-bodied, layered and round with polished tannins. I like the intensity and focus with such precision and gorgeousness. Is this the 2016 plus more?

Château Rauzan-Ségla 2022

The 2004 Château Rauzan-Ségla is a classic Margaux from a vintage known for wines of finesse and elegance. 2004 was a year with stable growing conditions, resulting in wines with a good balance of freshness, fruit, and structure.
In the glass, the 2004 vintage displays a brilliant ruby red color that still appears youthful. The nose unfolds with a complex bouquet of black currants, plums, and cherries, accompanied by delicate floral notes of violets and a hint of licorice. These are complemented by subtle spicy nuances of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of pencil lead, which are characteristic of Margaux and especially Rauzan-Ségla.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, with silky tannins and an excellent balance between fruit and acidity. The dark berry aromas are well integrated, supported by a subtle spice and a hint of earthy notes. The Château Rauzan-Ségla 2004 displays a beautiful freshness that lends the wine a lively structure without compromising its maturity and depth. The finish reveals mineral notes and a delicate oak note, underscoring the long, elegant finish.
This vintage is ideal for enjoying now, but also offers potential for further ageing. Perfect with roasted meats, game, or aged cheeses, the Château Rauzan-Ségla 2004 demonstrates the classic elegance for which the winery is known.
