Parker about Château Sociando-Mallet 2000

This is a beautiful wine and certainly one of the great sleepers of the vintage. I originally predicted that this wine would be at full maturity between 2007 and 2028, but I would push that back by a good 4-5 years. Still inky/purple, with notes of acacia flowers intermixed with wet rocks, black currants, and blueberries, the wine is full-bodied, displays no real evidence of any oak, and offers up terrific concentration, texture, and length. For those who bought this beauty at $30-35 when it was available, this was a terrific buy, and it should continue to evolve for 20+ years.

Produktbeschreibung

Château Sociando-Mallet 2000

The 2000 Château Sociando-Mallet from the Haut-Médoc appellation is an outstanding example of the high quality offered by this vintage. The 2000 vintage is often praised for its perfect balance and profound complexity.

In the glass, the Château Sociando-Mallet 2000 presents a deep, almost impenetrable ruby red, indicating intense concentration. The bouquet is rich and complex, with aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, and plums. These fruit aromas are complemented by delicate notes of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of pepper. Subtle nuances of leather, graphite, and an elegant minerality contribute to the additional depth of the aroma.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful, with dense yet supple tannins that lend the wine impressive structure and length. The fruit aromas are intense and concentrated, supported by complex spicy and earthy notes. The acidity is superbly integrated, providing a beautiful freshness and balance that makes the wine lively and approachable. The use of oak is well integrated, lending the wine additional complexity without being overpowering.

The finish is long and persistent, with an elegant aftertaste of ripe fruit, spices, and a subtle hint of oak. The Château Sociando-Mallet 2000 has developed superbly and offers an impressive drinking experience. It is now in an excellent drinking window, but can also age for several more years. Ideal with hearty meat dishes such as beef, lamb, or game, as well as mature cheeses.
