Dolcetto d'Alba 1997

Giacomo Conterno's 1997 Dolcetto d'Alba is a remarkable expression of this often underrated grape variety, created by one of Piedmont's most legendary winemakers. This aged Dolcetto demonstrates how the grape variety can gain complexity and depth over time. The nose unfolds with an elegant bouquet of dried red fruits such as cherries and currants, complemented by notes of leather, forest floor, herbs, and a hint of almond.
On the palate, it is surprisingly lively, with a soft texture and well-integrated tannins. The acidity adds freshness, while the aromas of ripe fruit, spices, and a subtle earthiness blend harmoniously. The finish is fine and characterized by a slightly bitter almond note, typical of Dolcetto. The 1997 vintage, an excellent year for Piedmont, gave this wine additional maturity and harmony, making it a fascinating treat for lovers of aged wines.
