Parker about Mölsheim Riesling Treasure Collection 2018
The 2018 Mölsheim Riesling unites the fruits from the Frauenberg, Schwarzer Herrgoot and Silberberg and opens with a pure, intense and very mineral bouquet with notes of crushed flint stones. Great precision and definition. Silky and very elegant on the first palate, this is a firmly structured, still untamed but long and complex dry Riesling that is made for Riesling freaks and the long distance. Very pure and salty and very, very promising. Tasted at the domaine in March 2020.

Suckling over Mölsheim Riesling Treasure Collection 2018
Plenty of brioche and croissant character intermingles with dried cloves, billiard table and petrichor; the ripe apples and apricots are behind that. There's loads of weight and density here, but the acidity is equally powerful, and it's matched by soft, fleshy appeal. This ends long and powerfully.

Mölsheim Riesling Treasure Collection 2018

The vineyards around Mölsheim are significantly cooler than our Hohen-Sülzer
Not only are the vineyards located quite high, which makes the
cooler winds of the Donnersberg massif pass through unprotected
can, in addition, the Zellertal also rejuvenates here and the winds
are forced through the valley like a nozzle. Cooler daytime temperatures
and extremely short drying periods after rainfall are the result.
The vines of the Mölsheim Riesling are rooted in the bare limestone rock, which here is only
covered by a thin layer of gravel. The vineyard work is
laborious and every year we have to remove huge amounts of limestone,
that literally grow out of the vineyard. This stoniness and
Austerity is perfectly expressed in the minerality of the Riesling:
Subdued fruit, few primary aromas, but the extremely delicate
Notes of flint and northern herbs. A Riesling that plays with
the acidity and minerality are nevertheless incredibly elegant and finely chiseled.
2018 was a year of superlatives: The stable, dry high pressure weather
with lots of sun over the summer months also shaped the picture in our
vineyards. The dry periods have taken their toll on the vines.
once again proved to be a complex, yet very effective measure
proven that we can already produce thousands of straw bales in spring
in the vineyards to ensure good shading of the
soil and to counteract evaporation.
Our efforts have culminated in 2019 with the construction of our new maturation cellar
reached a new peak.
Every wine that leaves our winery after years of maturation receives a
special designation of the “Treasure Collection” on the label to
provenance in the winery’s aging cellar under ideal conditions
