Suckling over Monte Nostrum Riesling Magnum Auction Wine 2021

This super-racy and super-mineral dry riesling with its extremely fine white peach, wild flower and herb aromas is an archetypical expression of the steep, high-altitude vineyards of Kiedrich. Stunning crystalline finish that takes your breath away and inexorably pulls you back to the glass for more of this elixir that's simultaneously strong and delicate. This wine used to be marketed under the name Burg Scharfensteiner. Great aging potential. Drink from release.

Monte Nostrum Riesling Magnum Auction Wine 2021

The 2021 Monte Nostrum Riesling Auction Wine from Robert Weil is another impressive creation from the renowned winery under the direction of Wilhelm Weil and his talented team. This special wine comes from the coolest and highest-altitude parcels on the ridge of the Kiedricher Berg in the Rheingau, directly above the Gräfenberg and Turmberg mountains, near the edge of the forest.

The history of this site dates back to 1160, when the bishops of Mainz built the keep of the former castellum nostrum. This served as a watchtower for the already famous Turmberg and Gräfenberg crus, whose grapes were already of high quality. The special location at the top of the mountain and its proximity to the forest make Monte Nostrum one of Weil's coolest sites.

The barren phyllite slate soils, similar to those of the Turmberg, shape the unique character of this wine. The high altitude further enhances this specific terroir. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand in several rounds from early to mid-October. This is followed by a brief skin-on period, followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation and subsequent aging take place for 12 to 18 months in double-barreled local oak barrels.

The result is a wine of outstanding quality and complexity that reflects the uniqueness of this spectacular site. Monte Nostrum is another impressive example of the skill and passion of Robert Weil and his team and a true highlight in the range of this renowned winery.
