Parker about Opus One 1994
This is an impressive effort from Opus One. The wine, a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc, 2% Merlot, and 1% Malbec, possesses a dark ruby/purple color, followed by a generous, complex nose of lead pencil, toasty oak, violets, and black currants. In the mouth, there is a beautiful texture, soft, generous, low acid, full-bodied richness, and a stunningly proportioned, rich, intense finish. The influence of 18 months in new French oak casks gives the wine a subtle oaky note in addition to giving it excellent delineation. Because of the wine's softness and generosity, it can be drunk now as well as over the next 18-20 years.Opus One 1999 is a Bordeaux-inspired red wine made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. This combination of grape varieties gives the wine exceptional complexity and depth. On the nose, Opus One 1999 presents intense and enticing aromas of dark fruits such as black currants, plums, and cassis. These aromas are accompanied by nuances of spice, tobacco, cedarwood, and a subtle hint of vanilla from the oak aging. The aromas are beautifully balanced and lend the wine remarkable depth and elegance. On the palate, Opus One 1999 is powerful and rich, with impressive structure. The fruity aromas continue, accompanied by fine tannins that give the wine a silky texture. The wine is well balanced and has a remarkable length and persistence on the finish.

Opus One 1994

The 1994 Opus One is an iconic Napa Valley wine that masterfully embodies the collaboration between Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild. This vintage is considered one of the finest in Opus One's history, characterized by optimal weather conditions that gave the grapes outstanding ripeness and concentration.
On the nose, the wine displays a rich bouquet of black currants, blackberries, and black cherries, underscored by subtle notes of vanilla, cedarwood, and tobacco. Complex secondary aromas of truffle, earth, and a subtle spice, complemented by hints of dark chocolate and herbs, add depth and refinement to the wine.
On the palate, the Opus One 1994 is both elegant and powerful. The tannins are fine and velvety, while the acidity is perfectly integrated, lending the wine freshness and balance. The fruit aromas harmonize with nuances of coffee, leather, and a subtle minerality. The finish is long, smooth, and complex, with lingering notes of ripe fruit and spice.
The 1994 vintage is wonderfully mature today, but also has the potential to impress for years to come. A milestone for collectors and lovers of great Californian wines.
