Parker about Rothenberg Riesling Grand Cru 2022
From ungrafted vines planted in the 1930s on an elevated and protected terrace (1,800 square meters), the 2022 Hakenheim Rothenberg GG Wurzelecht is deep, pure and refined on the nose that delivers a highly complex bouquet with very fine hazelnut aromas (from the half piece). As sensational as the bouquet is, the palate is pure, enormously salivating and provided with very fine tannins that intertwine with the crystalline, finely grained acidity. This is an elegant, refined and complex Riesling, and everything that will be delivered in the future is already represented on the finish and aftertaste. The best vintage since 2019? Possibly. It's highly promising. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2023.

Suckling over Rothenberg Riesling Grand Cru 2022
A giant dry riesling that manages to be extremely concentrated, very powerful but also cool and incredibly precise. The super-fine apricot aroma has a hypnotic effect on you. Then comes the almost endless and totally mineral finish that has a mystery only time - and many years of bottle age - will unravel. Patience, patience, patience! Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

Rothenberg Riesling Grand Cru 2022

The Rothenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs 2022 from Kühling-Gillot is one of the remarkable Rieslings from the renowned Rheinhessen wine region and highlights the exceptional quality of the Roter Hang near Nierstein. The Rothenberg vineyard is known for its distinctive red clay slate soil, known as "Rotliegendes," which imparts a distinctive minerality to the wines. The 2022 vintage is an intense, brilliant yellow with golden reflections. A complex range of aromas unfolds on the nose: Initially, notes of ripe peach and apricot emerge, accompanied by citrus fruits such as lime and tangerine. In the background, subtle hints of herbs and a salty minerality typical of the Rothenberg develop.
On the palate, the wine displays an excellent balance between fruit, acidity, and minerality. The acidity is precise and refreshing, yet perfectly integrated, giving the wine an impressive elegance. The fruit aromas are vibrant and harmonize perfectly with the pronounced minerality of the red slate. The finish is long and intense, with the minerality resurfacing and shaping the flavor until the very end.
