Parker about Saarburg Rausch Riesling Auslese 2009
Picked largely near the beginning of the harvest – at the same time when botrytis berries were being selected for this year's TBA – Zilliken's 2009 Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese (an auction lot, and the AP #3, though that information is not necessary to pick it out, since there is only one non-gold capsule Auslese this vintage) features grilled pineapple, fresh lemon, and candied grapefruit rind, its bittersweet personality already anticipated by zesty, smoky aromatic pungency. Honey along with hints of caramel, butterscotch, and white raisin mingle with prickly pineapple and subtly biting citrus rind, and this is as creamy as it is blade-like in acid cut, yet somehow the effect is invigorating and dazzling, not inharmonious. You don't even think about the sweetness from this wine's 120 grams of residual sugar when it's in your mouth. Its sense of sheer density and penetrating sharpness of acid dominates in the finish, and I would give this a decade to ripen before broaching the first cork. There is 30-40 year potential here, I suspect.

Saarburg Rausch Riesling Auslese 2009

Weingut Zilliken is a renowned winery in Germany's Saar region. It is known for producing high-quality Riesling wines. The winery has a long history dating back to 1742 and is currently managed by the Zilliken family.
The Saarburg Rausch Riesling Auslese 2009 is one of their remarkable wines. "Auslese" is a German term that describes a high degree of ripeness in the grapes. It indicates that the grapes were harvested late to develop a high concentration of sugar and aromas.
The Saarburg Rausch Riesling Auslese 2009 is distinguished by its outstanding quality. It presents itself with a bright golden yellow color in the glass. On the nose, it unfolds a complex spectrum of aromas of ripe peaches, citrus fruits, and exotic fruits, accompanied by mineral notes.
On the palate, the wine is elegant and balanced with a lively acidity. The high concentration of fruit aromas continues, harmoniously balanced by a delicate sweetness. The finish is long and leaves a lasting impression.
The Saarburg Rausch Riesling Auslese 2009 is an excellent wine that ages well and continues to gain complexity over time. It pairs perfectly with fine desserts, aged cheeses, or can also be enjoyed on its own.
