Parker about Saarburg Rausch Riesling Grand Cru 2022
Zilliken's 2022 Rausch GG is mouthfilling, rich, intense and creamy, with fine tannins but little drive and purity. This Rausch has more texture and richness than crystalline Mosel structure and may please Burgundy lovers rather than Saar Riesling freaks. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the preview VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023.

Suckling over Saarburg Rausch Riesling Grand Cru 2022
A masterpiece of filigree! Very delicate and subtle with a spring meadow freshness, this has stacks of white peach and yellow apple fruit. Wonderfully elegant this sleek beauty dances its way over your palate. Very racy, wet stone finish, but without the pointed acidity to which the Saar tends. Drink or hold.

Saarburg Rausch Riesling Grand Cru 2022

The Saarburger Rausch Riesling Großes Gewächs 2022 from the Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken winery is a wine of remarkable precision and finesse, characterized by the unique slate minerality of the site. The nose unfolds a complex and multi-layered interplay of aromas of white peach, ripe pineapple, and juicy Williams pear, accompanied by delicate herbal spice, floral hints, and smoky minerality. The palate reveals a fascinating tension between the juicy fruit, the crystal-clear, precisely integrated acidity, and the deep, salty minerality, lending the wine impressive structure. The mouthfeel is taut yet smooth, with a subtle phenolic note that adds additional depth. Aging in traditional barrels ensures a subtle yet elegant texture without overpowering the freshness and radiance. The finish is long, cool, and characterized by an almost chalky minerality, which, combined with a delicate citrus spice, promises enormous aging potential. An exceptional Grosses Gewächs that will continue to gain complexity and depth with increasing bottle age.
