Parker about Saarburg Rausch Riesling Kabinett Methusalem Auction Wine 2023
Picked a couple of days after the regular Kabinett from a 50-year-old plot, the 2023 Rausch Kabinett (auction) is from grapes that were turning from golden-yellow to pink when harvested. Clear, tart and less fruity on the nose than the Kabinett AP 4, this is a full-bodied yet weightless, elegant, lively, saline and finessed Kabinett with brown sugar sweetness and a fine combination of phenols and mineral grip. This wine will be auctioned in November in Trier at the annual VDP auction. 8.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024 from AP 3 24.

Saarburg Rausch Riesling Kabinett Methusalem Auction Wine 2023

The 2023 Saarburg Rausch Riesling Kabinett auction wine from Zilliken is a prime example of the fine art of residually sweet Saar Riesling and is one of the most sought-after Kabinett wines at the VDP auction. The Saarburger Rausch vineyard, characterized by weathered Devonian slate and diabase rock, produces wines with fascinating depth, finesse, and minerality. The 2023 auction cabinet wine displays an almost weightless elegance with a precise, delicate acid structure that perfectly balances the delicate sweetness. On the nose, it reveals a complex interplay of aromas of white peach, ripe pear, lime zest, and delicate floral nuances, accompanied by a hint of herbal spice and wet slate. On the palate, the wine is cool and crystal-clear, with a brilliant, almost prancing lightness and a deep, salty, mineral length. The long, stimulating finish makes it a magnificent representative of the Kabinett style – with great drinking pleasure and great aging potential.
