Parker about Saarburg Rausch Riesling Spätlese 2023
The 2023 Rausch Spätlese is super precise and clear on the elegant and slightly vegetal nose that shows discreet tropical fruit aromas of mango and baby pineapples. The wine is juicy yet refined and very elegant on the palate, moderately sweet, nicely saline and provided with very fine, elegant, salivating acidity. This will be an excellent gastronomic wine in 10 and still in 25 years. There are tart citrus fruit notes on the aftertaste. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

Suckling over Saarburg Rausch Riesling Spätlese 2023
What striking aromas of tropical fruit and flowers this classic Saar riesling Spatlese has. Very refined and elegant with a stunning purity. The power is definitely underplayed on the medium-bodied palate, so that the intensity at the very focused and delicate finish comes as quite a surprise. Excellent aging potential. Drink or hold.

Saarburg Rausch Riesling Spätlese 2023

The Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese 2023 from the Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken winery is a prime example of the harmony between lively acidity, delicate fruit sweetness, and slate-infused minerality that characterizes great Saar Rieslings. The nose unfolds with an expressive interplay of aromas of ripe peach, candied lemon, and juicy pineapple, accompanied by hints of orange blossom, honey, and wet slate. On the palate, the Spätlese is dense and concentrated, yet never heavy, but rather carried by a precise, almost electrifying acidity structure that provides freshness and excitement. The fruit sweetness is perfectly integrated and balances the profile with notes of white currant, quince, and a hint of exotic passion fruit. The delicate texture and impressive depth lead to a long, salty-mineral finish that impressively reflects the terroir of the Saarburger Rausch. The low alcohol content of approximately 7.5% gives the wine a playful lightness that makes it a versatile food companion—be it with Asian cuisine, fine shellfish, or mature soft cheeses. At the same time, it possesses enormous aging potential and will continue to develop over the decades, deepening its complexity even further. A magnificent Riesling with elegance, precision, and finesse, already delighting now, but with patience, it will reveal an even more impressive spectrum.
