Parker about Sauvignon Blanc “Terra Rossa” Westhofen 2023
The 2023 Westhofen Sauvignon Blanc Terra Rossa is deep, clear and remarkably refined on the unique and spicy nose that represents the Steingrube "VDP.Erste Lage." It is vinified in 65% oval Stockinger oak vats of 1,600 liters. There is a cool character in this wine that shows pure terroir aromas with stony as well as herbal notes intermingled with noble, rather discreet yet very elegant fruit. Bottled in early July, this is a dense, tight, extract-rich and (luckily) bone-dry Sauvignon. It is rich and intense enough anyway and doesn't lack for anything, least of all character and potential. This could be mistaken for a fine Graves white as well, and the saline and salivating finish, with its intensity, extract, fine tannins and spices, promises a remarkable future. To be released April 2025. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap closure. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

Sauvignon Blanc “Terra Rossa” Westhofen 2023

The Sauvignon Blanc "Terra Rossa" Westhofen 2023 from Weingut Weedenborn is an expressive and complex white wine that perfectly reflects Gesine Roll's signature style and the exceptional terroir of the Westhofen vineyards. The vines grow on iron-rich, red clay soils ("Terra Rossa"), which lend the wine a fascinating depth and spiciness. The nose reveals an intense interplay of aromas of exotic fruits such as passion fruit and pineapple, accompanied by gooseberries, fresh lime, and delicate herbal notes. On the palate, it impresses with an impressive combination of juiciness, structure, and minerality. The fine, precise acidity provides freshness, while the subtle smoky and salty hints from the terroir create an exciting complexity. The finish is long, elegant, and characterized by a fine spiciness. A Sauvignon Blanc with character, it is an excellent accompaniment to Asian dishes, seafood or goat cheese and is also a great drinking pleasure on its own.
