Parker about Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2023
The 2023 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese is clear, deep, intense and fresh on the complex and still reductive nose. Rich and lush on the concentrated palate, this is a dense and savory, textured and rich Auslese with saline grip and good tension, but it's currently pretty closed and not really singing, even with a certain astringency (from a second bottle). 8% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 10 24 in January 2025.

Suckling over Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2023
This fabulous Auslese lays out a whole basket of exotic fruit in front of you. The almost supernatural freshness is no less exciting. Terrific tension between the two, the acidity giving this great brilliance on the extremely precise, medium-bodied palate. The finish almost perfectly balances the restrained richness and intense wet-stone minerality. Limited production. Still very youthful, but how can you resist the beauty?

Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2023

The Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese 2023 from Joh. Jos. Prüm radiates a brilliant light gold with youthful reflections, revealing its exceptional depth and elegance even on the nose. The bouquet combines juicy aromas of ripe peach, yellow pear, and candied lemon with delicate hints of blossom honey, orange blossom, and a subtle spiciness underscored by the unique slate minerality of the Zeltinger terroir. On the palate, the wine reveals a beguiling balance of silky sweetness and precise, lively acidity, lending it an almost weightless elegance. The fruit is brilliant and multifaceted, with nuances of exotic pineapple, juicy mirabelle plum, and a delicate herbal note. The mineral character provides additional structure and fascinating depth. The finish is long, complex, and carried by a saline freshness that creates a magnificent arc of tension. An impressive, high-class Mosel Auslese Riesling with enormous aging potential, which is already exciting in its youth but will gain in complexity and finesse over the decades.
