Parker about 20 Years Old Tawny Port

They think the NV 20 Year Old Tawny Port is perfect for their style, which is not too oxidative and not very volatile, the profile of much older wines, and they have a balance between youth and age, fruit and nuts. This has a lot of complexity and some liqueur notes, mixing the best of both worlds. It's intense, powerful and elegant, nuanced and complex, with a velvety palate, volume and density. It's long and tasty, with a lifted finish. Superb. Many people think these wines don't age in bottle, but I love it with the same time in bottle as in wood (20+20 year!). Where to start? Produktbeschreibung

20 Years Old Tawny Port

Niepoort's 20 Years Old Tawny Port is a masterpiece of port winemaking, achieving exceptional depth and complexity through its two decades of aging in small oak barrels. Niepoort, a family-run winery with a long tradition, is known for the high quality of its ports, and this 20-year-old Tawny is a prime example.

The 20 Years Old Tawny is a beautiful amber color with golden highlights, reflecting its long aging. The bouquet is rich and complex, with intense aromas of dried fruits such as figs, dates, and raisins, accompanied by notes of caramel, roasted nuts, and a hint of spicy oak. Hints of honey, orange peel, and fine wood are also frequently detected, giving the wine its characteristic depth.

On the palate, this Tawny Port is incredibly smooth and velvety, with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. The intense aromas of dried fruits and nuts continue, supported by subtle vanilla and spice notes that result from the long aging in oak barrels. The finish is long and elegant, with a hint of spice and a slight warmth that makes enjoying this wine an unforgettable experience.

Niepoort's 20 Years Old Tawny is ideal for enjoying on special occasions. It pairs perfectly with desserts such as nut tarts, crème brûlée, or chocolate desserts, as well as with mature cheeses and roasted nuts. Served slightly chilled, it unfolds its full aromas and is a wonderful companion for relaxed evenings or festive occasions. This wine embodies the perfection and dedication that goes into every drop of a great Tawny Port.

Information about the winemaker:

The history of the traditional company begins almost 200 years ago, when Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a young, ambitious Dutchman from near Amsterdam, laid the foundation for the wine company. After emigrating to Portugal and gaining some experience in the wine trade, he founded today's winery in 1842. According to the region, he focused on port wines.
