Parker about Colheita White Port 1968
They have released a small batch of the exceptional 1968 White Colheita Port, which shows a paler color than the 2012 (how to explain that?) with a bright tint, clear and clean. It has a complex note that is nutty and floral, with a hint of varnish, much subtler and more elegant than the younger version I tasted next to it. It has a very elegant palate that is dense, round and velvety, with pungent flavors and huge persistence. This is terribly elegant, to me the giveaway for old white ports. This is exceptional. This was bottled in 2022, and they only produced some 1,000 bottles.

Colheita White Port 1968

Niepoort's Colheita White Port 1968 is a rare and exceptional wine that impressively represents the heritage and craftsmanship of this renowned Portuguese winery. As a Colheita Port, this wine is a vintage wine that has been aged in oak barrels since its 1968 harvest, developing incredible complexity and depth. What makes this wine particularly remarkable is the fact that it was made from white grapes, which is less common among Colheita Ports.
Over the course of its decades of maturation, the Colheita White Port 1968 has acquired a deep golden to amber color. The nose unfolds a complex bouquet dominated by aromas of dried fruits such as apricots and figs, complemented by nuances of honey, nuts, and a hint of caramel and vanilla. These aromas are characteristic of a mature white port that has developed impressive depth and maturity through years of barrel aging.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, with an elegant balance between sweetness and acidity. Aromas of dried fruit and honey are complemented by a subtle nutty note that adds complexity. The finish is long and persistent, with a harmonious interplay of sweet and slightly spicy flavors.
Niepoort's Colheita White Port 1968 is a wine best enjoyed on special occasions. It's an excellent accompaniment to nuts, fine cheeses, or desserts based on caramel or dried fruit. Served neat, at a temperature of approximately 12–14°C, it unfolds its full splendor and offers an unforgettable taste experience. This wine is not only a delight for the palate, but also a testament to Niepoort's rich winemaking tradition.

Information about the winemaker:
The history of the traditional company begins almost 200 years ago, when Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort, a young, ambitious Dutchman from near Amsterdam, laid the foundation for the wine company. After emigrating to Portugal and gaining some experience in the wine trade, he founded today's winery in 1842. According to the region, he focused on port wines.
