Parker about Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2013
The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes might well be the most starting wine from Anne-Claude and her team this year, one that probably transcends this propitious vineyard. It has an expressive set of aromatics like the Folatières, a little more "fiery" at this stage perhaps, vivacious and defined with hints of lemon curd and white peach. The palate is voluminous and powerful with superb acidity and great depth. This is a Combettes with a lot of ambition and constitutes one of my favorites from the domaine this year.

Puligny Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2013

The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru comes from a highly regarded Premier Cru vineyard in the Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. The Les Combettes vineyard is ideally located between the villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, and its clay and limestone soils are perfect for growing Chardonnay, producing wines of exceptional finesse and depth.
Domaine Leflaive, a respected biodynamic producer, is known for its strict vineyard practices and commitment to the highest quality wines. The 2013 vintage was planted according to biodynamic principles, contributing to the health of the soil and vines, producing grapes that fully express the character of the terroir. The wine is fermented in French oak barrels, some of which are new to ensure a balanced integration of the wood notes. Bâtonnage (lees stirring) adds texture and complexity to the wine, and malolactic fermentation softens the acidity.
The Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2013 displays a bright golden yellow color. On the nose, it unfolds a complex bouquet of ripe citrus fruits, white flowers, apricots, and a hint of toasted almonds. Mineral notes are also present, accompanied by subtle spices and a hint of honey. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with lively acidity that adds freshness. Aromas of lemon, green apple, and pear harmonize with the pronounced minerality and a creamy texture. The influence of the wood is well integrated, with notes of vanilla and toast that enrich the overall flavor. The finish is long and persistent, characterized by mineral accents and a hint of citrus fruits.
The Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2013 has excellent aging potential. While approachable in its youth due to its balanced acidity and rich fruit profile, it will gain complexity and depth with several years of ageing. This wine pairs beautifully with rich seafood such as lobster or scallops, creamy poultry dishes, and fine cheeses such as aged Comté or Brie. Overall, the Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru 2013 is an outstanding example of the finesse and complexity that Domaine Leflaive can produce from this renowned vineyard.
Domaine Leflaive
Information about the winemaker:
Domaine Leflaive is one of the most famous wineries in Burgundy. The history of the domaine can be traced back centuries, but Joseph Leflaive is said to be the actual founder of today's winery. Shortly after the end of the First World War, he had to cope with the bankruptcy of his steelworks and decided to return to his homeland in Burgundy in order to continue the winemaking tradition of his ancestors and to expand his winery.
