The renowned JJ Prüm winery is located in Wehlen on the Moselle River. Since its founding by Johann Josef Prüm, the winery has been a German home for the creation of delicious and internationally acclaimed wines. Under the leadership of the current owners, Manfred, Wolfgang, and Katharina Prüm, they produce wines that impress with their quality and tradition. Over time, the distinctive fruit-forward and residually sweet wines have developed their own unique style, giving the winery outstanding recognition.
The beginning of Joh. Jos. Prüm
The year 1911 marked an important turning point in the history of German wineries. When Mathias Prüm died, he divided his inheritance, the estate, among his seven children. Johann Josef founded and managed the wine-growing region, and after whom it was ultimately named. In addition to this winery, numerous other wineries were created as a result of this division.
Luxury wines with a unique blend of flavors provide moments of supreme enjoyment. As a member of the Association of German Prädikat and Quality Wine Estates (VDP), the Joh. Jos. Prüm winery in Bernkastel on the Moselle can count itself among the producers of sustainably aged wines of outstanding quality. The Riesling grapes from which the winery produces its coveted Prädikat wines ripen on the Devonian and slate soils of the Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard, as well as in the Graacher Himmelreich, Bernkasteler Badstube, and Zeltinger Sonnenuhr vineyards.
An exclusive winery
On a 22-hectare vineyard, exquisite grape varieties thrive on the sunny, steep slopes of the Moselle. The local winemakers' repertoire includes red, white, and rosé wines, as well as sparkling wines and champagne, including the noble Château Pauqué. Some local winemakers produce sweet dessert wines and even port using traditional methods. The exclusivity of the fine wines produced here is of particular importance to the Prüm family: outsiders are therefore denied access to the legendary wine cellar.
The Joh. Jos. Prüm winery focuses exclusively on the cultivation of Riesling grapes, which produce a fruity white wine with natural residual sweetness and high acidity and minerality. The winery, now in its third and fourth generation, has been processing the excellent quality grapes of each vintage into wines that impress connoisseurs and critics alike. The premium wines of all vintages predominantly receive 96 to 100 Robert Parker points. In addition to the James Suckling points, the Robert Parker points, each of which is scaled up to 100, are a meaningful assessment of the quality of the aged wines. Highly rated 95 to 100-point wines not only impress with their excellent taste, but are also ideal investments.
