Parker about Gevrey-Chambertin Clos-Saint-Jacques 1er Cru 1993
Here is another life-affirming bottle of 1993 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques from Rousseau. This example showed a little more maturity in color, but the nose is entrancing and develops beautiful raspberry preserve, pomegranate, cool stone and bay leaf scents that are quite intoxicating. The palate is fresh, crisp and brilliantly focused. It is still a feminine Clos Saint Jacques, the tannin so fine and now abraded by time. Yes, it has a nonchalant, easygoing personality that almost distracts you from its innate complexity. This remains a wonderful wine.

Gevrey-Chambertin Clos-Saint-Jacques 1er Cru 1993

The Gevrey-Chambertin Clos-Saint-Jacques 1er Cru 1993 from Armand Rousseau is a masterpiece from one of Burgundy's most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards. This wine perfectly showcases the terroir of Clos-Saint-Jacques, combining intensity with elegance. On the nose, it unfolds a complex bouquet of dark cherries, blackcurrants, and plums, accompanied by earthy aromas, undergrowth, truffle, and a hint of smoke. With age, hints of leather, tobacco, and finely spiced notes emerge, lending the wine exceptional depth.
On the palate, it is rich and focused, with powerful yet silky-smooth tannins that are beautifully integrated into the structure. The fruit flavors are intense and supported by a lively acidity that gives the wine freshness and balance. Its mineral undertones, derived from the barren soil of Clos-Saint-Jacques, are clearly noticeable and lend it a certain austerity and precision. The finish is long, complex, and very refined, indicating its great aging potential.
This 1993 vintage is characterized by its robust structure and yet delicate elegance, typical of Rousseau's style. The wine has the potential to evolve over decades and will develop even more depth and refinement over time.
