California Region
With over 250,000 hectares of vineyards, California is not only by far the most important wine-growing region in the USA, but also one of the most important in the world. Around 90 percent of the wines made in the USA come from the US state on the Pacific coast. Since the legendary "Judment of Paris" in 1976, a tasting at which French wines competed against Californian wines and the latter won, the wines of the US West Coast have been known and loved all over the world. Due to the large geographical north-south extension of the wine-growing region of over 1,000 kilometers, countless grape varieties thrive here in a wide variety of climatic conditions.
